What it Takes...

Commercial Pilot Requirements


Basic Eligibility
• At least 18 years old
• Read, speak, write, and understand English
• Hold a Second-Class Medical Certificate

Flight Experience Needed
• 250 total flight hours
• 100 hours PIC (50 in airplanes)
• 50 hours cross-country
• 10 hours PIC cross-country
• 10 hours instrument training
• 10 hours in a complex or TAA aircraft
• 5 hours night flight (10 night takeoffs/landings)

Knowledge Test
• FAA Commercial Pilot Written Exam
• 100 questions, 70% to pass

Checkride
• Oral exam + flight test with an FAA examiner

Privileges
• You may be paid to fly
• Jobs include charter, aerial photography, banner towing, crop dusting, corporate flying, and CFI (with additional training)
